Phoenix Dentist Helps Bring A ‘Boo-tiful’ Smile To Local Children After A Sweet Halloween

Dr Karen Chu and Small Smiles Dental Center of Phoenix to hold free dental screenings in a 'no child left un-screened' prevention effort

Phoenix, AZDr Karen Chu DMD and Phoenix Small Smiles Dental Center, a local dental practice focused on quality dental care for children in underserved communities, today announced that they will hold a free screening morning on November 2, 2011. During the hours of 9 am to 11 am, Dr Chu and the clinic will donate their expertise and office resources to ensure that 'no child goes unscreened' due to lack of funds or insurance. Special arrangements are available to groups.
We believe that every child has the right to a beautiful smile,.” says Dr Karen. “Every day, we work to make a difference in the lives of the children we serve. Through this program, we are able to ensure that no child goes untreated just because the family can't justify raiding a limited budget for a dental screening when there are no obvious signs of a problem or toothache.”

Pediatric Dental health is a major health issue in the US today. A surgeon general's report stated that fifty-one million school hours are lost each year to dental-related illness. Tooth decay has become the single most common chronic childhood disease — five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hay fever.
On the front lines of these statistics, Dr Chu states, "Since early screening and prevention catch decay and problems when they are small, screenings like these can save a child preventable and painful dental procedures down the line."

To take advantage of these post-Halloween free dental screenings, come to Small Smiles Dental Center, 5115 West Thomas Road (51st Avenue & West Thomas Road) Phoenix, AZ 85031. Sizeable groups please call (602) 233-3133 to make special arrangements.

Every year Dr Karen Chu and Small Smiles Dental Center participate in multiple free screening events for children and teens in the Phoenix area in an effort to ensure that no child goes without care. To learn more call (602) 233-3133 or for online map http://bit.ly/phoenixsmallsmiles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Phoenix Kids Dentist Announces New Online Resource

For Busy Parents

Dr Karen Chu, DDS To Launch Parent And Kid Friendly

Facebook Page

Phoenix
, Arizona, United States of America  December 23, 2011 Children's dentist Karen Chu DDS will launch a new online resource to help parents care for their children's dental and emotional health.

Using the Facebook business page platform, this page will feature creative and informative articles, videos and links to resources parents will find helpful to improve and maintain their kids teeth and general oral health. The majority of the page's focus will be on education, the development of healthy teeth and tips to encourage oral hygiene habits – with a small section for general parenting support topics.

Even the most involved and caring parent has time concerns in today's busy lifestyle. More and more, they have to rely on outside help to bridge the growing gap between children needs and available hours. Phoenix Kids Dentist Page is intended to give parents the building blocks to make parent interaction with their kids routines easier in any lifestyle – no matter how overworked.

Dr Chu supports and encourages a three-pronged approach to developing good dental hygiene and habits and maintaining a healthy smile in children. This is important with new research indicating how much of our general health is affected by dental health.

First, she encourages parental involvement in every part of the dental experience. Quality interaction with the children at home, communication with the pediatric dentist in the office and interaction with dentist and child during the appointment. Second, she suggests adding in an element of whimsy or positive focus to 'how' parents interact with their children about their teeth and the dentist visit. Dental avoidance and anxiety are often picked up from the people around the child – humor and positivity from the parent go a long way to counteracting those influences. Lastly she recommends adding a parental “quality time” component to brushing and flossing times. Instead of a fight to force good habits, parents can make those times a moment kids can count on positive parental attention.

The Phoenix children's dentist is counting on technology to help parents bridge the gap between modern schedules and quality involvement in their children's daily oral hygiene. She envisions this online resource as a place that parents can go to find a quick idea, a fast tool or a solution to a problem – such as a parenting “how to” video.

Karen Chu DDS, creator of the Phoenix Kids Dentist Page shares,

“When a parent is wondering how to prepare their toddler for that first dental visit to reduce fear and anxiety. They won't have to worry about figuring out how to help. They can just come to the page and find tools, ideas and guides – like the video showing them how to create a personalized story of their child going to the dentist. These are the types of time saving resources we intend to provide on an ongoing basis.”

The page will encourage parents to gather and discuss concerns with each other, share photos of their kids and create a community of parents who love and support healthy children. Phoenix parents especially are encouraged to join and create a caring local parent community.
